Prepare For Your Coverage Renewal
Check if NY State of Health has your current mailing address and contact information. If your information has changed, contact NY State of Health to update it. If you are a Medicaid member who enrolled through your county’s Medicaid office, you will need to contact your local office to update your mailing address and contact information. Then you will not miss important notices about your health coverage or your renewal letter.
What Your Renewal Looks Like
When it is time for you to renew, you will receive a notice from the state telling you what you need to do. Please follow the steps to renew quickly.
You can renew the same way you enrolled. If you enrolled with one of our Marketplace Facilitated Enrollers, an IPA Navigator, a Certified Application Counselor or through the NY State of Health Marketplace, you can renew online, in person or by phone. If you are a Medicaid member who enrolled through your county’s Medicaid office, you will need to contact your local office to renew.
Updating Your Info in NY State of Health
A renewal is a yearly review completed by NY State of Health or your county Medicaid office to check if you are still eligible for coverage. Going forward, you will have to renew your coverage every year to keep it. Missing your renewal deadline, incomplete paperwork, or forgetting a step in the renewal process all put you at risk of losing coverage. But we are here to help you every step of the way.
If you have had a change in income, age, or other qualifying factors, it is possible you will no longer qualify for your current coverage. The only way to know for sure is to complete your renewal on time.
When it is time for you to renew, you will receive a notice telling you what you need to do. Please follow the steps to renew quickly. If you have questions, call us at 1-866-613-8507 (TTY 711). No, not at all. No one can ever charge you a fee to renew your health insurance in Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or the Essential Plan. Government agencies will never threaten you, demand you pay money, or ask for credit information, in a text message or phone call.
If you suspect fraud or are a victim of a scam, refer to this NY State of Health consumer alert.
We offer free, no-cost renewal assistance through our Marketplace Facilitated Enrollers and at our local offices and Resource Centers.

The most important thing you need to do is keep your address current with NY State of Health or your county Medicaid office. Medicaid, Essential Plan and Child Health Plus mail cannot be forwarded. You must update your address, or you will not receive your renewal notice.
Some people may be auto renewed. If you were auto renewed, you should receive a letter from NY State of Health. You can make renewing your coverage easier and reduce your risk of a coverage gap by going into your NY State of Health online application, in the “Terms, Rights & Responsibilities” section, and marking the “yes” box next to the question asking you to allow them to renew your coverage automatically for up to 5 years.
You will have to reapply the same way you originally enrolled. If you enrolled with one of our Marketplace Facilitated Enrollers, an IPA Navigator, a Certified Application Counselor or through the NY State of Health Marketplace, you can reapply online, in person or by phone. If you are a Medicaid member who enrolled through your county’s Medicaid office, you will need to contact your local office to reapply.
If you do not have access to health coverage through your work, are under age 65, and lost your coverage due to a change in income or family size, you may be eligible for one of our other free or low-cost plans. Our plans will give you access to your doctors and the benefits you care most about.

If you no longer qualify for coverage after going through the renewal process, but are currently employed, you may have access to health insurance coverage through your company.
